The survey targeted three main species (Canada Goose, Black Scoter and Surf Scoter) but recorded observations of 25 waterfowl species in total. The primary goal of the survey was to model the habitat associations of the three target species, combining observational data with habitat characterization using remote sensing, and subsequently to assess the reproductive potential of these three species over a larger area. Pour l'inventaire de la sauvagine de Grande Baleine, au Nunavik, Québec, le Service canadien de la faune a utilisé des hélicoptères en 1991 pour effectuer des relevés de la sauvagine nicheuse pendant les périodes de nidification et d’élevage des jeunes sur des parcelles de 10x10 km (100 km²) situées dans le complexe de milieux humides de la Grande rivière de la Baleine, un réseau hétérogène de lacs intérieurs, d’étangs et de milieux humides associés à la rivière, répartis dans le bassin versant de la Grande rivière de la Baleine, dans le Nunavik (nord du Québec). Ce relevé visait trois espèces principales (la Bernache du Canada, la Macreuse à bec jaune et la Macreuse à front blanc), mais les observateurs ont enregistré des observations portant sur 25 espèces de sauvagine. L'objectif principal de l’inventaire était de modéliser les associations entre les habitats et les trois espèces visées, en combinant des données d'observation avec une caractérisation des habitats à l'aide de la télédétection, puis d'évaluer le potentiel reproductif de ces trois espèces sur une zone plus large.
