The Potential Area of Occupancy is a simple model that highlights the heron's preferred forest habitat at a high level. Potential Area of Occupancy is defined as terrestrial areas within the Coastal Douglas Fir and Coastal Western Hemlock Biogeoclimatic zones that are less than 10 km from a potential foraging area and west of the Cascades mountain range. Potential foraging areas are defined as the entire coastline and major river systems less than 1000 m in elevation. La zone d’occupation potentielle est un modèle simple qui met en évidence l’habitat forestier généralement privilégié par cette espèce. La zone d’occupation potentielle est définie comme les terres émergées à l’intérieur de la zone biogéoclimatique côtière du douglas taxifolié et de la zone biogéoclimatique côtière de la pruche occidentale se trouvant à moins de 10 km d’une aire d’alimentation potentielle et à l’ouest de la chaîne de montagnes des Cascades. Les aires d’alimentation potentielles sont définies comme l’ensemble du littoral et les grands systèmes fluviaux, à moins de 1 000 m d’élévation.
