The commercial catches sampling program is one of the sources of information used to complete these assessments. The data collected by this program, at wharf or at sea, offers among other things the advantage of a relatively large spatio-temporal coverage and provides some of the necessary knowledge to assess the demography and the structure of the exploited populations. This program is implemented by specialized DFO staff whose main mandate is to collect biological data on groundfish, pelagic fish and marine invertebrate species that are commercially exploited in the various marine communities. Data This dataset on the winter flounder (Pseudopleuronectes americanus) includes the metadata, sample weight, fish length, the sex and the number of specimens measured. This dataset covers the periods of 1992, 1997-2019. In order to protect the confidentiality of the sources, some informations (such as those concerning the vessel) have been excluded and others (such as the date of capture) have been simplified. Entries where there was only one vessel in a fishing area for a given year were also excluded. Sommaire La région du Québec du Ministère des Pêches et des Océans (MPO) est responsable de l'évaluation de plusieurs stocks de poissons et d’invertébrés exploités dans l'estuaire et le nord du golfe du Saint-Laurent. Le programme d’échantillonnage des captures commerciales est l’une des sources d’information utilisée pour la réalisation de ces évaluations. Les données récoltées par ce programme, à quai ou en mer, offrent entre autres l’avantage d’une couverture spatio-temporelle relativement importante et permettent d’obtenir une partie des connaissances nécessaires pour déterminer la démographie et la structure des populations exploitées. La mise en œuvre de ce programme est assurée par du personnel spécialisé du MPO dont le principal mandat consiste à prélever des données biologiques sur les espèces de poissons de fond, de poissons pélagiques et d'invertébrés marins exploités commercialement dans les diverses communautés maritimes.
