The Coastal Environmental Baseline Program has supported efforts in 2018 and 2019 of tagged Atlantic salmon smolts leaving the Bay de L’eau River and Rushoon River region of Placentia Bay. This was part of a larger four year tracking study in this region (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022) trying to improve DFO’s understanding of the residency, survival, and migration routes of Atlantic salmon smolts during the first months at sea within northwest Placentia Bay. As of spring 2023, four years of detection data were being processed with the goal of presenting this work at the next Atlantic salmon CSAS meeting and developing a primary publication. This record contains the locations there smolt were tagged in Placentia Bay, NL. Ce projet a été mené à bien par la Section des salmonidés de la Direction des sciences des Pêches et des Océans (MPO) de la région de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador. En 2018 et 2019, le Programme de référence environnementale côtière a appuyé les efforts visant à identifier les smolts de saumon atlantique étiquetés quittant la région de la baie de l’eau et de la rivière Rushoon de la baie Placentia. Cette étude s’inscrivait dans le cadre d’une plus grande étude de suivi sur quatre ans dans cette région (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022) visant à améliorer la compréhension par le MPO des routes de résidence, de survie et de migration des saumoneaux de l’Atlantique au cours des premiers mois en mer dans le nord-ouest de la baie Placentia. Au printemps 2023, quatre années de données de détection étaient en cours de traitement dans le but de présenter ces travaux à la prochaine réunion du SCAS sur le saumon de l’Atlantique et d’élaborer une publication principale.
