The CPR Survey is the longest running, most geographically extensive marine ecological survey in the world, providing comparable data on the geographical distribution, seasonal cycles and year-to-year changes in abundance of plankton over a large spatial area. The first northwest Atlantic samples were collected in the Irminger Sea in 1957, and sampling was extended farther west to the Scotian Shelf a few years later. Sampling has continued to the present with some interruptions during the late 1970s and 1980s. Sampling is nominally once per month along the E, MD, and Z lines. DFO Sample collection and analysis are led by the Continuous Plankton Recorder Survey program at the Marine Biological Association of the UK. DFO provides partial support for the northwest Atlantic survey carried out on the E, MD, and Z lines and incorporates CPR data in Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program ocean environmental status reporting. Le plancton (zooplancton et phytoplancton de grande taille) est prélevé au moyen de l’enregistreur de plancton en continu (EPC) dans l’Atlantique Nord-Ouest, le long des routes parcourues par des porte-conteneurs sur la ligne Z entre Reykjavik (Islande) et St. John’s (Terre-Neuve), ainsi que sur les lignes E et MD entre St. John’s et la côte de la Nouvelle-Angleterre le long du plateau néo-écossais. Le relevé par EPC représente le plus ancien et le plus géographiquement vaste relevé écologique marin au monde, et fournit des données comparables sur la distribution spatiale, les cycles saisonniers et les changements interannuels de l’abondance du plancton à grande échelle. Les premiers échantillons en provenance de l’Atlantique Nord-Ouest ont été prélevés en 1957 dans la mer d’Irminger. La zone d’échantillonnage s’est par la suite étendue quelques années plus tard vers l’ouest jusqu’au plateau néo-écossais. L’échantillonnage s’est poursuivi jusqu’à présent en dépit de quelques interruptions au cours des décennies de 1970 et 1980. L’échantillonnage a lieu typiquement une fois par mois le long des lignes E, MD, et Z. La collecte et l’analyse des échantillons de Pêches et Océans Canada sont dirigées par l’équipe du programme du relevé de l’enregistreur de plancton en continu de la Marine Biological Association du Royaume-Uni.
