The Groundfish Section, Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador Region implemented an acoustic tagging program to better understand the movement and habitat use for this species. This program began in 2021, and was further developed as a results of two DFO Competitive Science Research Fund project between 2022-2026. Fish were caught via trawl or longline, VEMCO acoustic transmitters surgically implanted, and released at site of capture. Detections occurred from acoustic receivers deployed by the Groundfish section and/or from receiver arrays associated with the Oceans Tracking Network (e.g. Northern Cod Acoustic Telemetry Array [NCAT]). Raw detection data are downloaded from receivers and sent to the Ocean Tracking Network for formatting and archiving. Data provided here summarize reported detections from 2021-2024 as part of a master’s project at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Release locations, number and location of detections, defined movement class, and detection duration are summarized by individual. Location information includes the position of the receiver the fish was detected at, and the North Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Divisions where fish were detected in. Le flétan du Groenland (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides), une espèce importante sur le plan commercial, fréquente les eaux profondes au large de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador. Au sein de Pêches et Océans Canada (MPO), la section des poissons de fond de la région de Terre Neuve-et-Labrador a mis en œuvre un programme de marquage acoustique pour mieux comprendre l’utilisation de l’habitat et les déplacements associés à cette espèce. Ce programme a commencé en 2021 et a été perfectionné dans le cadre de deux projets du Fonds de recherche scientifique compétitif du MPO entre 2022 et 2026. Les flétans du Groenland pêchés au chalut ou à la palangre ont été marqués au moyen d’un émetteur acoustique VEMCO implanté chirurgicalement, puis ont été remis à l’eau au site de capture. Ils ont été détectés par des récepteurs acoustiques déployés par la section des poissons de fond ou des réseaux de récepteurs associés à l’Ocean Tracking Network [en anglais seulement] (p. ex. le réseau de télémétrie acoustique sur la morue du Nord). Les données de détection brutes sont téléchargées à partir des récepteurs, puis envoyées à l’Ocean Tracking Network aux fins de formatage et d’archivage. Les données fournies dans le présent document résument les détections consignées entre 2021 et 2024 dans le cadre d’un projet de maîtrise de l’Université Memorial de Terre-Neuve. Le lieu de remise à l’eau, le nombre de détections, les lieux de détection, la classe de déplacement définie et la durée de détection sont résumés pour chaque individu.
