The Elk Valley Water Quality Plan was developed by Teck with input from the public, First Nations, governments, technical experts and other stakeholders. The purpose of the Plan is to identify a strategy and implement solutions to address increasing selenium and nitrate water concentrations within the Valley, and assess and track levels of cadmium and sulphate in waters; while at the same time allowing for continued sustainable mining in the Valley. The Plan also lays out a strategy to address calcite formation associated with historical and current mining activity. The Plan was submitted to the British Columbia Minister of Environment for approval on July 22, 2014. The ministry amended the Elk Valley ABMP in 2025. Le plan de gestion régional d'Elk Valley (ABMP) - « Plan de qualité de l'eau d'Elk Valley » a été élaboré conformément à l'arrêté ministériel n° 113 pour remédier aux effets sur la qualité de l'eau des anciennes mines de charbon et pour orienter le développement futur. Le plan de qualité de l'eau d'Elk Valley a été élaboré par Teck avec la participation du public, des Premières nations, des gouvernements, d'experts techniques et d'autres parties prenantes. Le but du plan est d'identifier une stratégie et de mettre en œuvre des solutions pour faire face à l'augmentation des concentrations de sélénium et de nitrate dans l'eau dans la vallée, et pour évaluer et suivre les niveaux de cadmium et de sulfate dans les eaux, tout en permettant la poursuite d'une exploitation minière durable dans la vallée. Le Plan présente également une stratégie visant à remédier à la formation de calcite associée aux activités minières passées et actuelles.
