The Street Tree Layer (STL) is a separate layer from the Urban Atlas 2012 LU/LC layer produced within the level 1 urban mask for each FUA. It includes contiguous rows or a patches of trees covering 500 m² or more and with a minimum width of 10 meter over "Artificial surfaces" (nomenclature class 1) inside FUA (i.e. rows of trees along the road network outside urban areas or forest adjacent to urban areas should not be included). Within the Copernicus component, a portfolio of land monitoring activities has been delegated by the European Union to the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the DG Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. The Copernicus land monitoring products and services are made available on a principle of full, open and free access, as established by the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 1159/2013 of 12 July 2013. Free, full and open access to the products and services of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service is made on the conditions that: 1. When distributing or communicating Copernicus Land Monitoring Service products and services (data, software scripts, web services, user and methodological documentation and similar) to the public, users shall inform the public of the source of these products and services. 2. The production of the Street Tree Layers was performed on the basis of SPOT 5 Supermode data used for the Urban Atlas 2012 production acquired between March and November months with a preference for spring and late summer imagery. An interactive automated classification approach was applied to identify contiguous rows or a patches of trees covering 500 m² or more and with a minimum width of 10 m. A post-processing routine was applied to provide the results in vector format. The Minimum Mapping Unit is 0.5 ha. The Minimum Mapping Width is 10 m.
