Seules les données des espèces benthiques associées à l’habitat du buccin sont présentées dans ce jeu de données. Le relevé a été mis en place en 2005 à la suite de la pêche intensive du début des années 2000 dans la région de la Haute-Côte-Nord. Les trois secteurs couverts par le relevé étaient basés sur la distribution de l’effort de la pêche commerciale de 2001 à 2004. Les relevés ont été effectués entre la mi-juillet et le début d’août de 2005 à 2019 sur la rive nord de l’estuaire du Saint-Laurent entre Portneuf-sur-Mer et Baie-Comeau selon un plan d'échantillonnage à stations fixes. Trois secteurs ont été inventoriés à chaque relevé, soit Forestville (69°03’11"W-48° 39’24"N et 68°56’02"W-48° 46’16"N), Pointe-aux-Outardes (68°35’53"W-48° 59’32"N et 68°25’30"W-49° 01’06"N) et Baie-Comeau (68°06’04"W-49° 08’40"N et 68°05’10"W-49° 12’26"N). Depuis 2007, le plan d’échantillonnage est constitué de 55 stations à Forestville, 26 stations à Pointe-aux-Outardes et de 11 stations à Baie-Comeau. L'intervalle de profondeur ciblé aux trois secteurs était d'environ 5 à 40 m. Les spécimens ont été récoltés à l’aide d’une drague à pétoncle de type Digby d’une largeur totale de 3.04 m constituée de quatre paniers doublés de Vexar™ de 19 mm de maillage afin de récolter les petits individus. Les positions début et fin ont été notées pour calculer la distance parcourue à chaque trait à l'aide de la bibliothèque geosphere de R. Depuis 2011, la distance moyenne des traits était d’environ 300 m. La superficie couverte à chaque trait était le produit de la largeur de la drague et de la distance. Les trois fichiers fournis (format DarwinCore) sont complémentaires et sont reliés par la clé « IDactivité ». Le fichier «Information_activité» comprend les informations génériques de l'activité, notamment la date et la localisation. Le fichier «information_supplémentaire_activité_et_occurrence» comprend notamment la taille de l'échantillon, le protocole et l’effort d’échantillonnage. Le fichier «occurrence_taxon» comprend la taxonomie des espèces observées, identifiées à l’espèce ou au niveau taxonomique le plus bas possible. Pour les contrôles de qualité, tous les noms taxonomiques ont été vérifiés sur le registre mondial des espèces marines (WoRMS) pour correspondre aux normes reconnues. La correspondance WoRMS a été placée dans le champ « IDnomScientifique » du fichier d'occurrence. Les cas spéciaux ont été notés dans le champ « commentairesIdentification » et certains spécimens sélectionnés ont été confirmés à l'aide de photos de terrain. Les contrôles de la qualité des données ont été effectués à l'aide des bibliothèques R obistools et worrms. Tous les emplacements d'échantillonnage ont été validés spatialement. A research survey on the common whelk (Buccinum undatum) has been conducted biennially in three sectors of the St. Lawrence Estuary since 2005 to assess the abundance of whelk and benthic species associated with whelk habitat. Only data for benthic species associated with whelk habitat are presented in this dataset. The survey was initiated in 2005 following the intensive fishery of the early 2000s in the Upper North Shore region. The three sectors covered by the survey were based on the distribution of commercial fishing effort from 2001 to 2004. Surveys were conducted between mid-July and early August from 2005 to 2019 on the North Shore of the St. Lawrence Estuary between Portneuf-sur-Mer and Baie-Comeau according to a fixed station sampling design. Three sectors were surveyed at each survey: Forestville (69°03'11"W-48°39'24"N and 68°56'02"W-48°46'16"N), Pointe-aux-Outardes (68°35'53"W-48°59'32"N and 68°25'30"W-49°01'06"N) and Baie-Comeau (68°06'04"W-49°08'40"N and 68°05'10"W-49°12'26"N). Since 2007, the sampling plan consists of 55 stations in Forestville, 26 stations in Pointe-aux-Outardes and 11 stations in Baie-Comeau. The targeted depth interval at the three sectors was approximately 5 to 40 m. Specimens were collected using a Digby-type scallop dredge with a total width of 3.04 m consisting of four 19 mm mesh Vexar™ lined baskets to harvest small individuals. Start and end positions were recorded to calculate the distance traveled at each tow using the geosphere library in R. Since 2011, the average tow distance was approximately 300 m. The area covered at each tow was the product of the dredge width and distance. The three files provided (DarwinCore format) are complementary and are linked by the "eventID" key. The "event_information" file includes generic event information, including date and location. The "additional_information_event_and_occurrence" file includes sample size, sampling protocol and sampling effort, among others. The "taxon_occurrence" file includes the taxonomy of the species observed, identified to the species or lowest possible taxonomic level. For quality controls, all taxonomic names were checked against the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) to match recognized standards. The WoRMS match was placed in the "scientificNameID" field of the occurrence file. Special cases were noted in "identificationRemarks" and selected specimens were confirmed using field photos.
