3D geological model of the Danish subsurface (Late Palaeozoic – Danian)

The dataset represents a layered 3D geological model of the Danish subsurface based on integration of reflection seismic data, borehole data, wireline logs and lithological information. The model comprises 17 stratigraphic units from the Upper Permian to the Danian and is structured as a layered digital elevation model (LDEM) consisting of 17 grid surfaces with a spatial resolution of 400 x 400 metres. The underlying data have been interpreted from seismic profiles and calibrated against deep wells, enabling the construction of depth and isochore maps for each unit. The dataset covers onshore Denmark and the inner Danish waters and represents the structural and stratigraphic framework of the Danish Basin and the northern part of the North German Basin. The model provides a basis for analysis of the geological evolution and spatial variability of the subsurface.

Supplemental Information
The dataset represents a regional geological model based on integration of seismic data and borehole data of varying quality and age. The seismic data span several decades and include both modern digital datasets and older data, some of which have been digitised from analogue sources. Data coverage is not homogeneous, and areas with limited data availability occur, which may affect the local accuracy of the model. The interpretation of stratigraphic units is based on correlation between seismic horizons and borehole data and therefore involves a degree of geological uncertainty. Depth conversion has been carried out using velocity models, which introduces additional uncertainty in absolute depths. The model is suitable for regional analysis and overall assessment of the subsurface structure but should not be used for detailed local planning or drilling without incorporation of additional data and analyses.

Statement
The dataset has been generated through regional interpretation of reflection seismic data integrated with data from deep wells, including wireline logs and lithological descriptions. Seismic horizons have been identified and correlated to stratigraphic units based on borehole data, after which surfaces have been gridded and depth converted using velocity models calibrated against checkshot data. The seismic database comprises multiple surveys of varying quality and age, supplemented by gravity data for structural interpretation. The result is a layered digital elevation model (LDEM) representing the depth and thickness of stratigraphic units in the model.
