- Purpose
- The purpose of this CanCoast feature class is to quantify the spatial variability in decadal mean significant wave heights including sea ice along the marine coasts of Canada from 2090 to 2099. It was developed from CMIP5 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5) data which analysed an ensemble of different projections of climate variables for time periods including the early and late 21st century. This feature class is an average of significant wave heights output from the BCC-CSM1-1, EC-EARTH, GFDL-ESM2M, INMCM4, and MIROC5 models using IPCC RCP 8.5, in a subset for coastal Canada. It contributes to calculations of Canada's coastal sensitivity to changing climate. Positive change indicates increasing wave height, negative change indicates decreasing wave height.
- Credit
- Funding for CanCoast was provided by the Climate Change Geoscience Program of the Lands and Minerals Sector of Natural Resources Canada under the Supporting Adaptation in Coastal Regions project. Additional funding was provided by the Climate Change Impacts and Adaptations Division of Natural Resources Canada.
