Abandoned Mines Information System Database; Abandoned Mine District

"The Abandoned Mines Information System (AMIS) database is a catalogue of the approximate 5600 abandoned and inactive mine sites and related mine hazards within the Province of Ontario. AMIS contains information on all known abandoned and inactive mine sites located on both Crown and privately held lands within the Province.

Please be aware of the following regarding our AMIS data: The information provided in this data set has been compiled from various sources, and the Ministry makes no representation and takes no responsibility that such information is accurate, current or complete. The user is advised to contact the AMIS database administrator and is warned to undertake his or her own independent investigation to validate this information.

Information stored in AMIS on each mine site includes site name, alternate names, location, dates the site was active, all mine features known to be located on the site, known hazards and their level of protection, inspections, most recent assessment, remedial action taken, selection of references and if available, a corresponding Mineral Deposit Inventory (MDI) number.

The Abandoned Mine Features data class provides information regarding all known features associated with an abandoned or inactive mine site other than that of the primary feature.

The mapped locations within the Abandoned Mine Features data class have been buffered 50 meters to provide the public with a spatial awareness warning to be alert for potentially dangerous abandoned mine workings that may cover a large area. Legislated or Legal Authority for Collection: N/A.Additional Time Period Information: Dates of Compiled Data."
