- Purpose
- The purpose of this CanCoast feature class is to quantify the spatial variability of relative sea-level (RSL) change along the marine coasts of Canada from 2006 to 2020. RSL is a combination of changes in the volume of water in the oceans (global sea-level change) and vertical motion of the land. This feature class was developed using an ensemble model of global sea-level change produced by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) for the Fifth Assessment Report using RCP 8.5 and a refined model of vertical land motion produced by Natural Resources Canada for the The purpose of this CanCoast feature class is to quantify the spatial variability of relative sea-level (RSL) change along the marine coasts of Canada from 2006 to 2020. RSL is a combination of changes in the volume of water in the oceans (global sea-level change) and vertical motion of the land. This feature class was developed using an ensemble model of global sea-level change produced by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) for the Fifth Assessment Report using RCP 8.5 and a refined model of vertical land motion produced by Natural Resources Canada for the Canadian domain constrained by measurements. Positive change indicates sea-level rise, negative change indicates sea-level fall. This feature class represents baseline relative sea-level change for the early 21st century contributing to calculations of Canada's coastal sensitivity to changing climate.
