Sea surface forecast
Met Norway's operational numerical wave model MyWaveWam is run on a 4 km grid covering Europe and the Arctic. The model is run twice daily with ECMWF and AROME atmospheric forcing to give forecasts to +66 hrs

- Supplemental Information
- The Arctic Ocean Wave Analysis and Forecast system uses the wave model WAM which provides hourly output data with best estimates from previous days together with a 5 days forecast. WAM models the behavior of wind-generated ocean surface gravity waves in space and time. The wave model WAM solves the equations for the conservation of spectral wave energy in the presence of dissipation, wind input and non-linear interaction between spectral wave nodes. The original version was developed by a group of European scientists in the 1980's and was the first third-generation wave model. In contrast to first- and second-generation models, WAM solves the wave action equation explicitly without any presumptions on the shapeof the wave spectrum and represents the physics of the wave evolution for the full set of degrees of freedom of a twodimensional wave spectrum. The current model version is an upgrade made in the FP7 project MyWave. In this system WAM is forced with wind velocities at 10 meters from the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) atmospheric model, with lateral spectra from the ECMWF wave model and with ice concentration from OSI SAF (Ocean and Sea Ice). Assimilation is not performed. The output netcdf file contains the total wave integrated variables as well as their Swell and Wind-Sea components. The model is set in a regular rotated grid with 8km resolution. The output netcdf file contains both the rotated coordinates together with the real latitude and longitude. Resolution: The output resolution is 8km. Quality information: The quality of the data products is assessed by a Near-Real Time validation from buoys and platform observations within the domain. The variables validated are: significant wave height and peak period. This information will be reported on quarterly basis.
