- Purpose
- The purpose of this CanCoast feature class is to map the spatial variability of backshore slope along the marine coasts of Canada. It is derived from slopes in the CDEM (Canadian Digital Elevation Model) dataset produced by Natural Resources Canada. In this feature class, backshore slope is defined as the slope in degrees from the shoreline landward to the nearest elevation point within 200 m of the shoreline, spatially averaged alongshore within a 200 m distance. This feature class contributes to the calculations of Canada's coastal erosion sensitivity in a changing climate.
- Credit
- Funding for CanCoast was provided by the Climate Change Geoscience Program of the Lands and Minerals Sector of Natural Resources Canada under the Supporting Adaptation in Coastal Regions project. Additional funding was provided by the Climate Change Impacts and Adaptations Division of Natural Resources Canada.
