- Purpose
- The purpose of this CanCoast feature class is to map the spatial variability of ground ice in permafrost along Canada's marine coasts and quantify the sensitivity to changing climate. Permafrost is defined as ground that is below 0oC for more than two years. Ground ice forms in unconsolidated sediments with permafrost in the form of pores, veins, lenses and massive bodies This feature class quantifies the amount of present-day ground ice in permafrost along Canada's coasts to contribute to the calculations of Canada's coastal sensitivity to changing climate.
- Credit
- Funding for CanCoast was provided by the Climate Change Geoscience Program of the Lands and Minerals Sector of Natural Resources Canada under the Supporting Adaptation in Coastal Regions project. Additional funding was provided by the Climate Change Impacts and Adaptations Division of Natural Resources Canada.
