- Title: Creation of the Web Mapping Service (WMS) for the Canadian National Marine Seismic Data Repository -- Description: Our inventory of over 50 years of analog marine survey field paper records were scanned on a continuous roll scanner at 300 dpi and were converted into JPEG2000 format. Typically each of these scanned files were from 1 to 2 gbyte in size before compression, and were compressed by a factor of 10:1. Empirical tests with a number of data sets suggest that there is minimal visual distortion of the scanned data at this level of compression. Scanned data are available in a reduced-scale thumbnail format and a compressed full-resolution JPEG2000 format. Seismic data were compiled into a KML file format. The web mapping service (WMS) was created from the data in the KML file.
