NLCD 1992, NLCD 2001, and NLCD 2006 are National Land Cover Database classification schemes based primarily on Landsat data along with ancillary data sources, such as topography, census and agricultural statistics, soil characteristics, wetlands, and other land cover maps. NLCD 1992 is a 21-class land cover classification scheme that has been applied consistently across the conterminous U.S. at a spatial resolution of 30 meters. NLCD 2001 is a 16-class land cover classification scheme that also has been applied to the conterminous U.S. at a spatial resolution of 30 meters, and includes Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. NLCD 2006 quantifies land cover change for the conterminous U.S. between the years 2001 to 2006. Generation of NLCD 2006 helped identify and correct issues in the NLCD 2001 land cover and impervious surface products only, and no changes were made to the NLCD 2001 canopy product. For additional information, go to http://www.mrlc.gov/.

The USGS Medium Scale Shaded Relief from The National Map is a cached tile service that contains shaded relief elevation layers derived from the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NED was developed by merging the highest resolution, best-quality elevation data available across the United States into a seamless raster format. Medium scale shaded relief represents NED data with a horizontal grid spacing of 1 arc-second (approximately 30 meters) as if it were a surface illuminated by a light source 45 degrees above the northwest horizon. Medium scale shaded relief can be viewed from 1:4.6M to 1:578,000 in The National Map viewer. Go to http://ned.usgs.gov/ and http://extract.cr.usgs.gov/distmeta/servlet/gov.usgs.edc.MetaBuilder?TYPE=HTML&DATASET=NED for more information on 1 arc-second NED.

TNM Large Scale Shaded Relief is a dynamic service that contains shaded relief elevation layers derived from the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NED was developed by merging the highest resolution, best-quality elevation data available across the United States into a seamless raster format. Large scale shaded relief represents NED data with horizontal grid spacings of 1/3 arc-second (approximately 10 meters) and 1/9 arc-second (approximately 3 meters) as if it were a surface illuminated by a light source 45 degrees above the northwest horizon. Small scale shaded relief can be viewed at scales of 1:289,000 and larger in The National Map Viewer. Go to http://ned.usgs.gov/ and http://extract.cr.usgs.gov/distmeta/servlet/gov.usgs.edc.MetaBuilder?TYPE=HTML&DATASET=NED13 for more information on 1/3 arc-second NED.

The USGS Landsat archive has over 3 million images from around the globe and spans over 4 decades. The products displayed in this service are 3-band composites called LandsatLook. These data cannot be used for rigorous scientific analysis, but are intended for visual interpretation and education. For more information on LandsatLook products, please visit: http://landsat.usgs.gov/LandsatLookImages.php. For more information about full Landsat data products, resolutions, map projection and so forth, please visit: http://landsat.usgs.gov/Landsat_Processing_Details.php.
