Data on transitional, coastal and marine waters are collected annually through the WISE-SoE data collection process. The data requested on transitional, coastal and marine waters include the physical characteristics of the transitional, coastal and marine water monitoring and flux stations, proxy pressures on the upstream catchment, basin and River Basin District associated with transitional and coastal waters, chemical quality data on nutrients in seawater and hazardous substances in biota, sediment and seawater, as well as data on direct discharges and riverine input loads. The biogeographical regions dataset contains the official delineations used in the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) and for the EMERALD Network set up under the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bern Convention). Changes in 2016 version: The Pannonian region of Serbia was missing in previous versions and this has been corrected in the 2016 version. Some Arctic islands which do not belong to the European part of Russia and which were erroneously included in previous versions have been removed. Biogeographical boundaries were obtained from the EU Member States and from the Emerald Network countries. These were merged together to produce a European wide map of the biogeographical regions independent of political boundaries. A number of the regions were updated during the work under Article 17 of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) and in 2010 the Standing Committee to the Bern Convention adopted a number of changes according to progress in the setting-up of the Emerald Network. http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/biogeographical-regions-europe-3

Modifications adopted by the Bern Convention Standing Committee and approved by habitats Committee in 05-04/03. Opposed to former versions this layer has an improved geographical scale of 1:1000000. This means that it can also be used to analysis purposes. Note, however, that this version has a poorer geographical coverage than the former versions. The Urban Atlas is part of the implementation of the Global Monitoring of Environment and Security (GMES) service. Compiled from thousands of satellite photographs, the Urban Atlas provides detailed and cost-effective digital mapping. The Urban Atlas will enable urban planners and the public to assess risks and opportunities, ranging from threat of flooding and impact of climate change, and to identifying new infrastructure needs. All cities in the EU will be covered by the Urban Atlas by 2011.This map will provide for the first time homogeneous and up-to-date information on urban environments, allowing for a comparison of different cities all across Europe.Data source: http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/urban-atlas

Dataset contains data selected from reporting of member and collaborating countries on Ammonium, Nitrate and Nitrite concentrations in groundwater sites. Reported data have been assessed and processed by the ETC-Water and the EEA. Disaggregated records were annually aggregated and statistic value calculated. Results of quality assessment are incorporated. The dataset contains data on nutrients and organic matter, proxy pressure data on the upstream catchments and physical characteristics of the WISE-SoE lake monitoring stations. Waterbase contains timely, reliable and policy-relevant data collected from EEA member countries through the WISE-SoE data collection (formerly known as Eionet-Water and Eurowaternet) process. WISE-SoE data collection selects validated monitoring data from national databases and adds information on the physical characteristics of the water bodies being monitored and on the pressures potentially affecting water quality. The added value of Waterbase is that data collected through the WISE-SoE data collection process are from statistically stratified monitoring stations and groundwater bodies and are comparable at the European level. Waterbase data are primarily used in the production of the EEA's indicator-based factsheets.
