Traditional territories of Yukon first nations and settlement areas of Inuvialuit and Tetlit Gwich'in within the Yukon Territory. A Traditional Territory is an area of the Yukon that the people of a First Nation have traditionally used. A First Nation's Settlement Lands fall inside the boundaries of its Traditional Territory. A First Nation does not own its Traditional Territory, but the First Nation and its beneficiaries have a number of rights within their Traditional Territory, both on and off of Settlement Land. This data was built using the 1:250,000 National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) data as the base and the 1:500,000 hardcopy traditional territory maps as signed by individual First Nation chiefs on November 8, 1988 for the line work. Surveyed Cadastral Framework for Yukon First Nations and Tetlit Gwich'in settlement lands including rural blocks (R-block) and Site specific (S-sites) lands of the First Nations that have ratified their agreements. Settlement land is land identified in a first nation's final agreement as settlement land of the first nation. There are three types of settlement land that a Yukon First Nation can own and manage: Category A: complete ownership of surface and subsurface; Category B: complete ownership of the surface only; Fee Simple: private ownership. In the source NRCAN ICM dataset all First Nation Lands were included in the Land_parcel feature class. They have being extracted from land_parcel to produce this separate feature class. This feature delineates forest health disturbances which includes Abiotic and Biotic forest health agents in the Yukon at a scale of 1:100,000. It is a management level forest health overview survey (as opposed to an operational level) - meaning that analysis and mapping are most effective close to the 1:100,000 scale and not larger. This Forest Health Overview surveys has been completed in various stages: 1 ) Starting with mapping the disturbance type, and severity from the Air using Fix wing aircraft on to hardcopy 1:100,000 scale maps ; 2 ) Transfering the Data to a clean Mylar for scanning and digitizing ; and, 3 ) Scanning and digitizing and populate data into GIS spatial database . This cadastral framework provides a parcel base of properly structured vector data designed and suited for Geographical Information System (GIS) application and can be used for land management purposes. The boundaries are established from either Land Claims Final Agreement, Self Government Agreement, Memorandum of Understanding, Local Advisory Area, or from a signed document between Yukon Government and First Nation. An Order in Council is prepared and the new boundary comes into effect. Older LAP's and Community Plans were approved by YG Minister and Cabinet as a policy document. Newer plans are approved in the same manner which also include First Nation resolution by Chief and Council Some of these contain a Future Land Use Plan or Land Use Plan with area designations.
