The Fish and Wildlife Development Fund (FWDF) was developed to manage, preserve and enhance fish and wildlife habitat in Saskatchewan. The fund has three fish and wildlife management goals: Maintain natural habitat through conservation, biodiversity, land management and awareness of rare species; Maintain and grow sustainable fish populations and fish habitat; and Maintain game populations and ensure accessible hunting. Thirty per cent of the revenue from all hunting, angling and trapping licence sales is contributed to the fund. Wildlife Refuges in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Refuges are described in Part V of the Wildlife Management Zones and Special Areas Boundaries Regulation (WMZSABR). They are constituted as areas for protecting, propagating, managing, controlling, regulating or enhancing wildlife or its habitat.

Special Management Areas are part of a network of protected lands in Saskatchewan. The following dataset accurately defines SMA land areas in Saskatchewan that have various levels of developmental restrictions. The Minister of Environment wishes to identify “Special Management Areas” to be managed for the following purposes:a) the protection, enhancement or restoration of natural ecosystems, wildlife habitat or habitat of rare, threatened or endangered plant or animal species;b) the retention of significant botanical, zoological, morphological, historical archaeological features respecting the land;c) the conservation of soil, air and water quality; and the opportunity for scientific research and study related to the ecological health of the area.

Ecological Reserves are part of a network of Designated Areas. The goal of the network is to create and maintain a comprehensive, dynamic and accessible data set (digital map) that accurately defines land areas in Saskatchewan that have various level Unique ecological reserves that are designed to protect representative areas of natural landscapes and to conserve biological diversity.

Game Preserve's in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Game Preserves are described in Part III of the Wildlife Management Zones and Special Areas Boundaries Regulations (WMZSABR). They are constituted as areas for protecting, propagating, managing, controlling, regulating or enhancing wildlife or its habitat.

Crown Conservation Easements in Saskatchewan administered by Fish, Wildlife & Lands Branch of the Ministry of Environment. This dataset represents all Crown Conservation Easements registered with the Ministry of Environment. Section 11.4 of the Conservation Easements Act gives specific directions with respect to interests on title and registration of a CCE. To be in effect a copy of an executed CCE must be provided to the Ministry. Receipt of this document is recorded in this Fish, Wildlife and Lands Branch database and an Agreement number is assigned sequentially. An interest, based on the CCE, must also be registered with Information Services Corporation (ISC). Currently these two datasets are not reconciled. Technical Details: Crown Conservation Easements are meant to protect wildlife habitat and ecological values on private titled lands in the Province. Crown Conservation Easements are registered as a condition of sale, on all Crown Wildlife Habitat Protection Act lands that are assessed as having Moderate ecological values. A CCE is registered to a numbered parcel. It is this parcel identification that is reflected in this spatial dataset. The Agreement Number is included which identifies the filing number under which detailed information can be found in digital and hardcopy within the Fish, Wildlife & Lands Branch of the Ministry of Environment.

Ramsar Weltand features are part of the Protected Areas coverage's for Saskatchewan. Ramsar Wetland are Wetlands of international importance for flood control, nutrient production, wildlife habitat and other related purposes. Management procedures to prevent the destruction and deterioration of wetlands through state adherence to an international convention known as RAMSAR, signed in Iran in 1971. One in a series of Protected Areas coverage'screated in 1996 by Canadian Plains Research Centre, University of Regina.

Conservation Easements on private land in Saskatchewan. The Representative Area Ecological Reserves Regulations are part of the Protected Lands of Saskatchewan.
