Notice - Replacement of the English and French Web services (WMS and ESRI REST) with a bilingual one. The NRN product is distributed in the form of thirteen provincial or territorial datasets and consists of two linear entities (Road Segment and Ferry Connection Segment) and three punctual entities (Junction, Blocked Passage, Toll Point) with which is associated a series of descriptive attributes such as, among others: First House Number, Last House Number, Street Name Body, Place Name, Functional Road Class, Pavement Status, Number Of Lanes, Structure Type, Route Number, Route Name, Exit Number. The development of the NRN was realized by means of individual meetings and national workshops with interested data providers from the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments. In 2005, the NRN edition 2.0 was alternately adopted by members from the Inter-Agency Committee on Geomatics (IACG) and the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). The NRN content largely conforms to the ISO 14825 from ISO/TC 204.

The Quebec road network, which is managed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD), is represented on the interactive map according to the functional class of roads: Autoroute, National, Regional, Collector, Local 1-2-3, Local 1-2-3, Access resources, Access to resources and isolated locations. Some routes in the dataset are also under federal management or in public-private partnerships (PPP). The road network is inventoried according to the MTMD linear reference system. The linear reference is expressed under the acronym RTSS (Road, Section, Section, Sub-road). The inventoried roads are composed of a 14-character alphanumeric code and an associated measure called chaining (distance measured in meters). An inventoried route will therefore have a starting link (always 0) and an end link representing its length. Thus, the chaining value of a point can be extrapolated precisely to this point. The linear reference method is applied both in the field by different reference points and for the management of digital data of related road assets.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**

Mileage markers, also often called kilometer markers, allow road users and safety workers to use road signs to locate on the road network. Mileage markers are installed on all motorways and they can also be installed on other classes of roads (e.g. national road) where there are tracking problems or an absence of services.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**

This collection is a legacy product that is no longer maintained. It may not meet current government standards. Users of Atlas of Canada National Scale Data 1:1,000,000 (release of May 2017) should plan to make the transition towards the new CanVec product. The Atlas of Canada National Scale Data 1:1,000,000 Series consists of boundary, coast, island, place name, railway, river, road, road ferry and waterbody data sets that were compiled to be used for atlas large scale (1:1,000,000 to 1:4,000,000) mapping. These data sets have been integrated so that their relative positions are cartographically correct. Any data outside of Canada included in the data sets is strictly to complete the context of the data.
