Administrative boundaries called mining divisions were once used for recording claims. This information is now historic. This dataset contains the codes for each of the 24 mining division. For example, 1=ALBERNI, 2=ATLIN, 3=CARIBOO, 4=CLINTON, 5=FORT STEELE. These boundaries are no longer used for current administration. Mining division is needed when submitting the title page for your Technical Work Report. They can also be used to reference historical records.

Polygon features that delineate the boundaries of work areas from annual reports by mineral exploration industry and prospectors for work commitments on mineral claims.

Grouping can include up to a maximum of 750 placer claims. All placer claims must be contiguous, i.e. they must be adjoining. Any solitary placer claims that do not share at least one boundary with the placer claims to be grouped cannot be included in the grouping. Prospecting leases are dispositions of land granted under the Placer Mining Act for the purpose of testing and prospecting ground for placer deposits. Prospecting leases cannot be mined. With reference to baselines, prospecting leases are staked in the same manner as placer claims, but cover a greater distance (up to a maximum of 5 miles). The purpose of a prospecting lease is to offer an applicant the opportunity to test a large area and the exclusive right to stake the ground to claims. The administration of coal projects in the Yukon is governed under the Territorial Lands (Yukon) Act (TLYA) and the Coal Regulations enabled under the TLYA. The land use permits necessary for coal exploration and development are issued by the Energy Mines and Resources Lands Branch under the TLYA. The remaining coal licenses and coal leases are issued and administered by the Mineral Resources Branch Mining Lands offices.
