Administrative boundaries called mining divisions were once used for recording claims. This information is now historic. This dataset contains the codes for each of the 24 mining division. For example, 1=ALBERNI, 2=ATLIN, 3=CARIBOO, 4=CLINTON, 5=FORT STEELE. These boundaries are no longer used for current administration. Mining division is needed when submitting the title page for your Technical Work Report. They can also be used to reference historical records.

A placer claim is a parcel of land located or granted for placer mining. A claim also includes any ditches or water rights used for mining the claim and all other things belonging to or used in the working of the claim for mining purposes. A placer claim is a rectangular plot of ground. All angles of a claim must be right angles, except in the case where a boundary line of a previously located claim is adopted as common to both locations. The length of a regular placer claim from post one to post two is 500 feet along a baseline. Co-discovery claims must not exceed 1250 feet each and single discovery claims must not exceed 1500 feet. Grouping can include up to a maximum of 750 placer claims. All placer claims must be contiguous, i.e. they must be adjoining. Any solitary placer claims that do not share at least one boundary with the placer claims to be grouped cannot be included in the grouping. The administration of coal projects in the Yukon is governed under the Territorial Lands (Yukon) Act (TLYA) and the Coal Regulations enabled under the TLYA. The land use permits necessary for coal exploration and development are issued by the Energy Mines and Resources Lands Branch under the TLYA. The remaining coal licenses and coal leases are issued and administered by the Mineral Resources Branch Mining Lands offices.
